Alarm bells!
23 Apr '08 3:26 am Mmm - very interesting. I've heard of the allergy problem, I've never noticed germination... but this is very alarming and it seems like my trees must go! Will find out what the SA attitude/legislation is. Ironically a great many Rhus are indigenous, at least two growing wild on the farm. They don't colour, nor are they toxic.
I will use the very handy drawings of the leaves to check - perhaps I have the pistachio after all!
