perfume
23 May '08 6:45 am Allan Scott used to pick a MM every day for his house...he said that the perfume from one bloom would fill the house.I think stamens vary a deal with the days don't they?

3 L stamens
23 May '08 7:12 pm Stamens do darken and turn 'browner', but I don't think they would change from pink to yellow or vice versa - perhaps a MM grower can look out and comment!
I'd forgotten that little verse - thanks for the reminder, Dixie!

3? That's a lot of bloody L's
27 May '08 4:03 am Hey, I missed this one. I don't know the rose but it's got great form. I'm a good example of how poor noses can be. Any rose describes as less than "strong scent" won't have any for me.
I'm growing the Hot Cocoa rose, an exception to my no-hybrid-teas rule. It doesn't have any scent I can detect but you gotta love the color.
I wonder if you have a good rose nursery near by with anyone who might be able to recognize your mystery rose?

My Mother's 10c Worth
4 Jun '08 8:21 am My Mum grows MMs - they one of her very favourite roses. She and Dad came to visit for a week (we have just put them on the plane home). Mum says her MMs don't really smell either but she feels these roses are not big enough. Her MMs are a bigger, floppier rose.
The local rose nursery was no help what so ever.. except I spotted several other roses I would like to have! I want to disguise a revolting clay covered bank beside our garage... The nursery is a bare root type of shop so I will have to wait until winter.
Anyway, back to the topic... thanks for all the input. We'll get there yet!

6 Jun '08 11:52 am Hi Goose my near neighbour! Oooh I love a new nursery! Can't wait.
6 Jun '08 4:00 pm I know that rose pictures and colour descriptions can't be trusted, but this bareroot MM - yep, I saw the 'fragrant' word on it! - calls itself 'creamy white' and the picture is just that. How much cream should there be in a Margaret Merril rose? INteresting. The plot (like the cream) thickens...
