More on the Great Cherry Debarcle6 Jun '08 4:20 pm
Well it seems we are not the ruthless cherry killers that I thought. Neither of us can bring ourselves to cut them down without at least some attempt at saving them. So my latest plan is to dig up 25 of them (from the cattle yards to the stables) and transplant them along the stream bank. This stream is really an oversized ditch that is very deep-sided but has only a foot or so of water in the bottom. The edges are high and dry. A row of cherries along that stretch would look great, and the horrid pinkness cannot be seen from the house or lawns. It may even look as though it were planned!
Here are some pics of the last of the autumn colour, taken in late May... It is now officially winter here but this year some of the trees seem to be very late in losing their leaves.

This was taken 10 days ago. Looking up toward the house. These are two broodmares enjoying some sun.

This is was what greeted me one morning last week. Foggy trees in the turning circle.
