Recycled Pink Camellia
Hee hee. Have just won eight 'second-hand' Camellias in an online auction. Brilliant. No idea of the flower colours. The seller is digging them out for me, so Non-Gardening Partner won't be too annoyed. Haven't done this for ages now. And such a good price! There's a huge new garden area just waiting for them to fill it up. I am very happy.
Saturday 9th August
Rehoming someone else's unwanted Camellias is exciting, much more so than if I'd grabbed new plants from the nursery and paid serious money. Love the idea of recycling, and the unknown colours. Wonder what they'll be?
Today it's genuinely wintry today, with cold spitty rain and a fresh wind from the south (AKA Antarctica). Am not going outside gardening. Am going to read and practice my piano instead. Faure (eek!) and some early Schubert. Next week can be Camellia planting week.
Speckles the Stray :- Have been feeding (and trying to befriend) Speckles for four years now.
Am being woken up rather early these mornings. My silly stray cat Speckles has a new routine, and comes into the cottage about 5:30am. It's still dark, and Minimus growls from underneath the bed clothes. I wake up, get out of bed, and escort Spex outside onto the cold verandah. I give him his squishy fishy food, pour his milk, and whisper sweet nothings to him.
Naturally, I am now wide awake, ready to plan my gardening day, just as the birds start chirping. Brr...
Sunday 10th August
Today it's stopped raining, but it's too cold - only four degrees Celsius outside. Have come in from a dog-walk with Winnie. Oh my goodness! I've lost touch with my whole garden by concentrating all my efforts into one area (the Septic Tank Garden) and the removal of one annoying plant (Lamium).
Red Rhododendron Cornubia
Such a surprise : the red rhododendron Cornubia and the Camellia Cinnamon Cindy in the Driveway Garden are flowering. So is the pink Camellia Nonie Haydon, further down, semi-sheltered from the frosts. Wow! I wasn't expecting any of this. So beautiful - one of the best rewards ever.

And now we are off with the trailer to pick up my new Camellias. Love these flowering shrubs so much.
