Anything considered...

Mature lady with moderately dodgy knees seeks garden location in which to enjoy a whole day of light garden work. Prefers to sit down. Anything considered.

Oops. Left a coffee cup by the rain gauge.
The Stables Garden

Hee hee. Had lots of replies, chose the Stables Garden since it promised sun and reasonably dry lawn grass. Worked hard for three hours. Pulled out lots of older Lychnis plants, replaced the Flower Carpet rose (in the turquoise pot) with a Lavender, planted the rose in the garden.

Burning the gum leaves from the gutter.
Smoke!

Rescued irises from underneath the big Phormium, trimmed them and replanted them out in the open. Trimmed the big phormium. Then weeded around the edges.

After lunch...

After lunch I returned to rake up and burn all my mess. Added five barrowfuls of leaves which Non-Gardening Partner had cleaned out of the gutters. Trimmed an old Corokia behind the Stables (an experiment, to see if it refreshes itself by bushing out) and burnt all its branches.

Collected lots of dead Cordyline leaves to encourage the flames. Sat down and weeded by the water race Phormiums while the bonfire gurgled. Lots of flames to enjoy.

 The late autumn bonfire.
Flames!

A long, hard-working day with some wonderful results. Nearly six hours. Wow!

Monday 26th May

Phew! This morning I remembered to go to my dentist. All good. Back home I gardened for two hours, with Winnie the dog keeping me company. Sat on the back lawn and weeded further along the border by the water. Someone (me) didn't finish trimming the Shasta daisies. Fixed that, also trimmed the Red Hot Poker clump right down (hoping this is appropriate).

 Going OK.
Winnie the Dog

But my bottom got too cold and wet sitting in shorts - had to come inside to warm up. Strictly speaking I only missed out on an hour of gardening time. Will play my piano then cook the evening meal.
